Birth flower tattoo meaning

Een geboortebloem is de bloem die traditioneel aan jouw geboortemaand is gekoppeld, vergelijkbaar met een geboortesteen. Per maand verschilt de bloem en de betekenis die eraan wordt toegeschreven.

What is a birth flower?

Just as every month has its own birthstone, every month also has its own birth flower. This tradition dates back to the Victorian era in England, when flowers were used to convey feelings and messages. Flowers carried fixed meanings, and giving or wearing a particular flower was a way of saying something without words. That system evolved into the tradition of assigning a unique flower to each birth month.

Where does the tradition come from?

The roots of this tradition lie in Europe, though similar customs also exist in East Asian cultures. Throughout the twentieth century, the practice gained international popularity, partly driven by the jewelry industry, which began using birth flowers as a motif alongside birthstones. Today, birth flowers are widely used as personal symbols, for example in jewelry, illustrations, and tattoos.

The twelve months and their flowers

January has the snowdrop as its birth flower, a symbol of hope and new beginnings. February is associated with the violet, which stands for loyalty and modesty. March has the daffodil, a sign of renewal and self-confidence. April is linked to the daisy, representing innocence and purity. May has the lily of the valley, a flower that symbolizes happiness and tenderness. June is associated with the rose, long considered the symbol of love and beauty. July has the larkspur, which stands for positivity and an open nature. August is linked to the gladiolus, a flower that expresses strength and integrity. September has the aster, a symbol of wisdom and elegance. October is associated with the marigold, which stands for determination and creativity. November has the chrysanthemum, regarded in many cultures as a sign of loyalty and longevity. December is linked to the narcissus or holly, depending on the source, and represents hope and festivity.

Where does a birth flower tattoo look best?

A birth flower works well in places where the design has room to shine. Popular spots include the inner wrist, the side of the neck, the collarbone, and the inner ankle. Those looking for a larger design often choose the upper arm, the ribs, or the back. On the fingers or behind the ear, a smaller, stylized floral design works particularly well.

Why it helps to wear a motif temporarily first

Semi-permanente tattoo gedragen op de arm Semi-permanente tattoo in de zomer Sterrenbeeld tattoo gedragen op de huid

A meaning that works on paper does not always feel the same once you see it every day. Our semi-permanent tattoos use nano ink that sinks into the top layer of your skin and reacts with its proteins. After 24 to 48 hours the design is fully developed and hard to tell apart from a real tattoo. It fades by itself after 10 to 15 days.

You test the size

The same symbol reads very differently small on your wrist than large on your forearm.

You test the placement

A design that looks good in a photo can sit differently on your body. Wear it for two weeks where you are unsure.

You test whether the meaning holds

What fits today might still fit in two weeks. Or not. Both answers are useful before you commit.

No needle, no regret

Applying takes a minute, does not hurt and leaves nothing behind. Dermatologically tested and vegan.
